Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival in Beijing — Welcome to the Imperial Capital
- Meals: Dinner
- Overnight: Beijing, 5-star hotel
Arrive at Beijing Capital (PEK) or Daxing (PKX) International Airport; approx. 45–60-minute private transfer to the city.
- Your guide greets you and transfers you to your 5-star hotel near Wangfujing or the central business district.
- Late afternoon: Take an easy walk through Qianmen Street, the restored Ming-era commercial avenue of archways and old shopfronts leading toward the gate to the Inner City.
- Welcome dinner: Beijing's most famous dish, expertly carved Peking duck, served with thin pancakes, scallions, cucumber and sweet bean sauce, alongside refined northern classics. Rest well — the mountains await.

Day 2 | The Forbidden City, Jingshan Hill & the Temple of Heaven
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
- Overnight: Beijing, 5-star hotel
Short private transfers within the city; a full day of walking on level ground with some stairs.
- Morning: Begin at Tiananmen Square, then enter the Forbidden City through the Meridian Gate and walk the grand central axis of palaces, halls and marble courtyards once closed to all but the emperor. Exit the north gate and climb Jingshan Hill for the classic panorama over the Forbidden City's sea of golden rooftops — the single finest view in Beijing.
- Afternoon: Visit the Temple of Heaven, the circular Ming altar where emperors prayed for good harvests, ringed by a vast park where locals practice tai chi, sing and fly kites.
- Evening: Free for a relaxed meal, or add an optional Beijing opera or acrobatics performance.
- Prefer a more active day? We can replace today's central-city sights with a private trip to the Mutianyu Great Wall (with round-trip cable car), about 1.5 hours from the city — spectacular and uncrowded, though cold and exposed in winter.

Day 3 | High-Speed Rail to Chongli — First Runs on Olympic Snow
- Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
- Overnight: Chongli, ski-in/ski-out Olympic resort hotel
Approx. 50–60-minute high-speed train Beijing (Qinghe/Beijing North) → Taizicheng; 10–20-minute private transfer to the resort.
- Morning: After breakfast, transfer to the station for the Olympic high-speed train that climbs into the Yanshan Mountains. Arrive at Taizicheng Station, the purpose-built rail hub at the heart of the 2022 competition zone, and transfer to your ski-in/ski-out resort hotel in the Thaiwoo ski village.
- Afternoon: After collecting fitted rental equipment and lift passes, spend the afternoon on the mountain with your guide orienting you to the resort — gentle groomers and wide learning slopes for first-timers, with plenty of cruising terrain for returning skiers and riders.
- Dinner: Warm up with Inner Mongolian–style lamb hot pot or hearty northern dumplings in the ski village, then wander the lantern-lit pedestrian streets. If conditions suit, add an easy night-skiing session under the lights.

Day 4 | A Full Day on the Olympic Slopes — Genting Snow Park
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Overnight: Chongli, ski-in/ski-out Olympic resort hotel
Full skiing day; short transfer between resorts; optional private lesson.
- Full day: Ski at Genting Snow Park (Secret Garden), a core Beijing 2022 venue that hosted the freestyle skiing and snowboard competitions. Its wide, impeccably groomed runs, Olympic halfpipe and terrain parks suit everyone from beginners to confident intermediates and advanced riders. High-speed gondolas carry you quickly uphill.
- Lunch: A mountain lunch with panoramic views over the snow-covered peaks.
- We highly recommend arranging a private lesson with a certified English-speaking instructor for part of the day — the fastest way to learn as a beginner or to sharpen technique if you already ski or ride.
- At the end of the day, drive past the striking "Snow Ruyi" National Ski Jumping Centre, its sweeping ribbon-like tower one of the icons of the Games.
- Dinner: Celebrate your biggest ski day with a festive mountain feast; those with energy left can return to the slopes for more night skiing.

Day 5 | Final Morning Runs or Snow Play — Return to Beijing & Departure
Morning skiing; approx. 50–60-minute high-speed train Taizicheng → Beijing; private transfer to the airport.
- Morning: Enjoy one final morning on the slopes, or choose gentler winter fun — tubing, snow play, or a leisurely resort breakfast and spa time while the skiers finish their last runs.
- After checking out and returning equipment, transfer to Taizicheng Station for the midday bullet train back to Beijing, then continue by private car to the airport for your onward flight.
- We recommend scheduling a departure at 5:00 PM or later to allow a relaxed final morning and the rail transfer. Guests who prefer not to ski on the last day can instead add a third night in Beijing.
From the silence of a Forbidden City courtyard at dawn to the rush of carving an Olympic run as the mountains glow pink at dusk, this short journey pairs two worlds of Chinese adventure in one unforgettable week.

What to Know
- UNESCO designations: Chongli and its ski resorts are not UNESCO World Heritage Sites; their distinction is as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic competition zone. The Beijing portion includes genuine World Heritage Sites — the Forbidden City (1987), the Temple of Heaven (1998) and, on the optional Great Wall day, the Great Wall (1987) — along with the Central Axis of Beijing (2024).
- Season and timing: Chongli's ski season runs roughly from mid/late November through mid-March; Wanlong sometimes opens as early as late October and can run into early April, while exact opening dates are announced each season. The most reliable snow and full facilities run from late December through February. Chinese New Year (January/February) and school holidays are extremely crowded and priced at peak — book well ahead; January and March weekdays offer the best value and quietest slopes.
- Resort selection: Thaiwoo is the best all-round choice (biggest variety, lively village, all levels); Genting is ideal for Olympic legacy, groomed cruising and terrain parks; Wanlong is best for strong and expert skiers seeking natural powder and the area's biggest vertical (about 550 m), and can be substituted or added on request. Families and first-timers are well catered to at every resort, with dedicated beginner zones and magic carpets.
- Lift passes and rentals: A full-day lift pass runs roughly RMB 300–800 depending on resort and date; complete ski or snowboard rental is about RMB 100–300 per day. Private lessons are not included by default and cost approximately RMB 600–1,200 per hour with an English-speaking instructor; please ask us to reserve one.
- Cold-weather preparedness: Chongli is genuinely cold, windy and high-altitude (around 1,500–2,000 m). Bring or rent waterproof insulated jacket and pants, thermal base layers, a fleece mid-layer, warm ski socks, insulated waterproof gloves or mittens, and proper ski goggles. Use a neck gaiter rather than a scarf, which can catch on lifts. Sunscreen and lip balm matter at altitude and on bright snow.
- Non-skiers: Companions who do not ski can enjoy the resort village, spa, snow tubing, scenic gondola rides, cafés and Olympic landmarks, with a relaxed program each day.
- Summer alternative: If traveling between roughly June and September, there is no skiing; Chongli transforms into a cool mountain retreat (average summer temperature about 18°C / 65°F) for hiking, mountain biking, golf and forest scenery. We can rework this as a Beijing-plus-mountains summer itinerary on request.
- Reservations & ID: The Forbidden City and major Beijing museums require advance real-name, timed-entry booking (the Forbidden City sells no same-day tickets and is closed Mondays; foreign visitors use their passport). Your guide handles all reservations and train ticketing well in advance.
- Extending your trip: This itinerary pairs naturally with a longer Beijing stay, or with extensions to Xi'an (Terracotta Warriors) or Shanghai. In the Chongli area, the "Snow Ruyi" ski-jumping centre and Olympic parks can be added as sightseeing; a road visit to historic Zhangjiakou and its Dajing Gate is another optional excursion.
